Milwaukee Business Journal: Flying cars in a decade? Foxconn kickstarts smart cities design competition with $1 million

Foxconn Technology Group dedicated $1 million to a three-year program for Wisconsin’s university students to help design forward-looking, futuristic places to live and work.

The “Smart City, Smart Future” program is wide reaching, involving designs for workplaces, houses, transportation and communication systems. There will be competitions, and Foxconn will make available cash prizes, scholarships and funding to develop products and create new businesses, said Alan Yeung, Foxconn director of U.S. strategic initiatives.

“We’re doing this because we want to seek out the best ideas of building smart connected systems and cities,” Yeung said. “Besides supporting the participants, we will provide a platform to turn ideas into solutions, and to turn business plans perhaps into businesses and products.” Read the full story here.
